Enlisting a Good Friend for Design Help
When the idea for this blog first popped into my head, I already knew who I wanted to ask to design the creative elements for the site. Nora Doyle is a good friend from my university days. Nora lived on my floor freshman year and all us girls did everything together. At mealtimes, we filled two long tables at the cafeteria. We were even called "the Cult" in our building. We did not drink kool-aid or perform ritual sacrifices. Instead, we made sure that every girl on the floor knew that she always had someone to sit and eat with.
Nora and I have discussed zero-waste and green living at length. The zero-waste movement is something that we are both passionate about, especially Nora. Suffice to say, when I contacted Nora about my plans for this blog - books and green living - the geeky environmentalist was excited. I told her my ideas for the header, "Plants and Books," and she ran with it. She was able to see a clear picture of the foggy vision I presented her with and sent me several design choices. When I told Nora that I wanted the site's color scheme to be "green and brown," Nora came back with a much more specific breakdown of exact shades of these colors for my review. This was very helpful given I occasionally work out of an 8 pack of crayons, what even is chartreuse?
Nora was an absolute please to work with, and I am absolutely loving her design. I can't wait to use it as interior decoration inspiration when I move back to NYC in a few short months! I already have a few more projects that I will have to enlist Nora for soon. Altogether, the back-and-forth process of designing my site took under a week – and that was with me being unresponsive. If you have any illustration needs I highly recommend Nora!
Visit Nora's website here. On her blog she has a very intriguing series on the psychology of color that I highly recommend to anyone interested in marketing or illustration. Feel free to contact Nora at noradoyler@gmail.com

P.S. I am receiving no compensation for this review, just providing an honest opinion of a friend's work :)
